"Beanland: Rising From The Riverbed" DVD Released

There is a new DVD out now called "Rising From the Riverbed" about the story of legendary Oxford, Mississippi Jam-band Beanland. The group existed in the late 1980's and early 1990's and while the band was known throughout the South for jump-starting the Jam-band / Phred-rock scene, they are perhaps best known as the original band of Widespread Panic keyboardist Jo-Jo Herman and Widespread guitarist George McConnell.
The DVD, which chronicles the life and times of the band, also includes many photographs of the early 90's Oxford rock scene, including several photographs taken of the band Blue Mountain by Newt Rayburn in 1993 with original drummer Matt Brennan and 1994 with drummer Frank Couch.

On a personal note, when Beanland was in their prime (about 1987) I was a fifteen year old kid just getting into live music. I used to stand outside of Syd-n-Harry's in Oxford to hear the music and would peak into the Gin windows just to get a glimps of the band. When Beanland played late night gigs at the Hoka, I used to sneak out of the house to see them. (Sorry Mom!)
Additionally, George McConnell has always been a supporter and fan of my band The Cooters and its great to finally see all his hard work, dedication over the years, and pioneering of the Oxford rock scene in one (nearly) complete package.
If you are a fan of the North Mississippi rocknroll scene and history, I urge you to check out this long-overdue documentary.
