Charlie Wood

Charlie Wood is a talented and versatile singer/keyboardist who's eclectic musical style ranges from blues to jazz to r&b and all points in between. Born in Memphis,Tn, in 1967, Charlie studied classical piano from an early age and jazz piano in high school and college. He spent 1990 on the road as the keyboardist for legendary blues guitarist Albert King, with whom he toured the U.S. and Europe. He has performed with numerous regional blues and r&b acts, including Charmaine Neville, Linda Gail Lewis, Willie Cobbs and others. His band, Memphis Underground, was chosen to perform at the award ceremony honoring David Porter, author of "Soul Man" and many other Memphis r&b classics. For the past few years his "Charlie Wood Trio" have been performing nightly at the King's Palace Cafe on Memphis' historic Beale Street. He has also made several recent trips to the U.K., primarily working the London club scene but also opening as a solo act for Paul Jones' "Blues Band."

The local Memphis daily, "The Commercial Appeal," wrote a feature artile on Charlie and his music, describing him as "ten different people in one." U.K. media, among them London's "time Out" magazine, have described his music as "sophisticated blues and jazz funk" and "Memphis soul with a chugging rhythm." They also say he has "a voice to melt concrete" and that a live Charlie Wood performance is "always a good night" and "nevers fails to satisfy the soul."

Charlie is available as a solo performer, with his trio, or with his seven piece R&B band, Memphis Underground. For bookings and other information, please write to Charlie Wood / 2197 Cowden / Memphis, TN 38104 / U.S.A.
